Steven Wheaton - Director
Steve joined barbershop and the South Shore Saints in April of 1977. He sang in many quartets and competed at both the Division and District levels. Some of the quartets he sang in were the Metrognomes, Free Spirits, Valley Boys, Valleyaires, Chords Lite, Anything But, 4 Tonight Only, Northern Comfort, The Cavaliers, Backstage Pass and Recycled Parts. He performed in the Music Man twice, in 1991 with Chords Light for the Lyric Theatre’s production and in 2001 with 4 Tonight Only in Knowlton for the Sunshine Theatre’s production. He sang with his son, Andrew, in 4 Tonight Only and The Cavaliers.
Not long after joining the Saints, Steve became tenor section leader and assistant director. He was on the board as Membership VP, Program VP and Music VP. In 1986 he was asked to direct the chorus in the Eastern Townships, which he did for five years. He then went to the Pierrefonds Chapter where he was tenor section leader and assistant director. He was on the merger committee when Pierrefonds merged with the Montreal Chapter to become the Greater Montreal Chapter. In the Greater Montreal Chapter, he was Tenor and Bass section leader, Assistant Director, Music VP and President. He then came back to the South Shore Saints as Director early in 2002 but travel for work caused him to step down as Directo. Steve is also a member of the Plattsburgh, NY Chapter.
On the district level, Steve was District Vice President for the Mountain Division for four years and District Vice President of Events for three years. He was Co-chairman of the 2000 District Convention.
On the Society level, he was Chairman of the International Bid committee for Montreal conventions in 2002/2003 and 2018/2019 and Co-chairman of the 2003 International Convention in Montreal.
Steve has attended Harmony College twice, Director’s College four times and Harmony College Northeast/Harmony Pilgrimage many times since 1977. Steve was the Coordinator of the Great Northern Harmony Workshop since 1996 and the sponsor from 2004 to 2012. Today Steve is the assistant director of the South Shore Saints Barbershop Chorus, and the director of the Encore NDG Singing Chorus.
